A Top-tier Nearfield for Mid-sized Rooms
Ultra-precise monitoring is a crucial part of pro-level audio production. Focal’s Twin6 offers exactly that. This 2.5-way powered studio monitor delivers unprecedented transparency, unrivaled definition, precise dynamics, and a true-to-life soundstage — everything you need to get inside your mix. Twin6 is loaded with Focal’s vaunted beryllium inverted-dome tweeter and composite sandwich “W” cones, plus large laminar ports for distortion-free low-frequency reproduction. You also get a convenient Focus mode, which transforms Twin6 into a frequency-limited speaker to ensure that your mixes translate to smaller playback systems. Twin6 features an automatic, defeatable standby mode, low and high shelving, and a 160Hz lowpass filter. If you demand top-of-the-line monitoring for your mid-sized mix room, then Focal’s Twin6 is an excellent, high-quality solution.
Focus mode: two monitors in one
In order to ensure translation to smaller playback systems, it’s often helpful to use compact, frequency-limited speakers to check our mixes. Thanks to Focal’s convenient Focus mode, Twin6 fulfills this function — it’s effectively two monitors in one. In 2.5-way mode, this studio monitor boasts a 40Hz–40kHz frequency response via its 6.5-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeter. When you switch over to Focus mode, Twin6 exhibits a 110Hz–10kHz frequency response from the woofers alone. Focus mode give you an invaluable real-world reality check without necessitating a second set of studio monitors.

Focal’s beryllium inverted-dome tweeter
A Focal hallmark is the inverted-dome tweeter — and it’s a big part of the magic behind Twin6’s amazing performance. The particular advantage of the inverted dome is that it optimizes the mechanical coupling between the voice coil and the dome. As the voice coil is fixed at mid-height on the dome, it can uniformly move Twin6’s entire cone surface. This design inherently offers high efficiency, precision, and energy, all resulting in an extremely precise soundstage. Add to that the use of beryllium for Twin6’s dome — a material noted for its incredible rigidity — and you’ve got a speaker that can near-linearly span from 45Hz all the way up to 40kHz, above the range of human hearing.
“W” composite sandwich cones and large laminar ports
Twin6 takes advantage of Focal’s “W” composite sandwich cones. The unique characteristics of these cones permits optimization of the frequency response curve, thanks to the total control of three key parameters: lightness, rigidity, and damping. Twin6 also employs large laminar ports, which are completely devoid of unwanted port noises and distortion. Here at Sweetwater, we’ve found that Twin6 sounds amazingly transparent, has an excellent phase response, and has an extremely low distortion rate.

ABOUT FOCAL’S FOCUS MODE
Focus mode is an all-analog, footswitchable mode that allows you to switch from the primary, full-range playback experience to a bandwidth-limited one reminiscent of a “sound cube.” It’s essentially providing two monitoring experiences in one box.
What is Focus mode used for?
This bandwidth-limited mode is a convenient tool for checking the translation of your productions and mixes. The mode’s goal is to provide a real-world example of how mixes may translate in a typical consumer listening environment. It’s a viable replacement for a “sound cube.”
What is Focus mode actually doing?
When Focus mode is engaged, the entire signal is directed to the new 6-1/2-inch “W” Sandwich driver, and the tweeter is disengaged entirely. An additional set of crossovers are then engaged, limiting the playback to 110Hz–10kHz. The new “W” Sandwich driver and its taller voice coil allow the monitor to reach up to 10kHz with ease.
